Detailed section of system
Geothermal Heating and Cooling
The ground source geothermal system works with the roof top AHU to provide efficient heating and cooling to the building. 14 wells were positioned 510ft deep and water is circulated and supplied to the roof top AHU. The system utilizes the constant temperature of 55°F underground which cools the condenser of heat pump in summer. In winter, the water is pumped from the well for building space heating. The geothermal system provides 70% of the building heating and cooling needs.

This Diagram is a schematic of the water side pipes and equipment that run throughout the building. The right side of the schematic depicts the pipes that travel to and from the ground wells to the mechanical room. P-1 and P-2 represent the water pumps in the mechanical room that take water from the first floor to the rooftop air handling unit (depicted on the left side of the diagram). Only one pump is on duty at a time, while the other is on stand-by. The controls sequence shows that the pump on duty will alternate operation at least daily. (JoshWENTZ )
